At the end of the day I can live with Mega-Gallade having a garbage ability. Hell, I'm just excited that he got a Mega at all and he was one of the ones I was most looking forward to in ORAS.
But no matter how hard I try to swallow my pride and accept that this is the M-Gallade we're getting I can't help but ask... why?
There are almost 200 abilities a Pokemon can have. Some are amazing all around, some are decent, some are highly situational, and some are complete and utter shit. Inner Focus falls into the "situational" category. Is it entirely useless? No. But is it worthy of a Mega? Should a Pokemon that already has its own short comings to overcome be cursed with an ability that outside of a few specific situations can't help it at all?
Sure, let's say that it was GF's intent to gear M-Gallade towards Doubles, fine. But even still it's given a very specific ability for a very specific purpose and outside of that situation has no practical application.
Personally I honestly can't see why any ability should be restricted to only any use outside of Singles. Poor Florges for example. All abilities should have applications for Doubles AND Singles. GF encourages fans to use what they want, what they like, what they love, but why curse those who enjoy a certain Pokemon to only be able to use it successfully and to its full potential in some predestined matchup?
I don't know I feel like that the VGCs only hurts the games and that GF refuses to open their eyes and consider all the ramifications of their decisions.
It just would have been so easy to give him any, literally ANY even remotely useful ability, but instead he got stuck with a throwaway ability from Gen 3 that was pretty much just thrown on anything so that GF didn't have to get creative and make a good or useful ability for them.
I love Gallade and no matter how little GF really cares or how misguided their efforts are towards him nothing is going to change that. But it certainly is heartbreaking to see
