I don't remember exactly since it was so long ago, but the earliest it could have been would be christmas 1998, although I kind of doubt it. I know I was obsessed with pokemon by september 1999 since I had a pokemon backpack that year, but beyond that it's just guessing. it's most likely that I started watching the show in late 98/early 99, and then got red for my birthday in september 99
the neighborhood kids were all a bit older than me, and I'm sure they helped me figure out the game since I was fairly young. I know they showed me how to dupe and stuff like that, and told me sweet little lies like the mew truck. I remember us sitting against the tree in my front yard and playing, and I assume we were all just playing our own games. I don't remember specifics, I just remember that being comfy
