they're the previous iteration but with their main feature exaggerated instead of evolved
LickiLicki is fat Lickitung, Tangrowth is bigger Tangela, Magmortar is Magmar that shoots more fire, Porygon 3 is Porygon 2 but schizo, Togekiss is Togetic but fatter, Ambipom is Aipom but TWO tail hands instead of one, Gliscor, Roserade, Yanmega, etc.

the ones that feel right among these are Frosslass, Mismagius and Gallade- they make sense, but you wouldn't exactly expect Kirlia to turn into a knight with arm blades like you wouldn't expect Charmeleon to grow wings, or Scyther to go from scythes to scissorclaws
Eeveelutions don't count because that's its own category imo
