>>28447817If you don't want them to think you're stupid, then you are worrying too much. Nobody who is themselves intelligent or at least worth knowing is going to think that you are stupid for liking Pokemon. Don't worry about impressing people, especially not with things unrelated to your subject. As a Mississippi resident I can tell you that you can hold forth on anything from bow hunting to the latest four-wheelers and tractors, and as long as you know your shit in your actual course, nobody worth knowing is going to think you're stupid. You fairly regularly hear shit in my University's science department like two guys who look and sound like rednecks talking about high school football one moment and then launching into a discussion about the latest advances in polymer science the next using full technical terminology. Universities are pretty amazing places.
Also being an adult means you can like whatever you want, and realizing that there is a whole fucking WORLD of difference between embarrassing and shameful. Being a titanic anime fan is pretty embarrassing when you're not surrounded by other anime fans, but there's no shame in it. Maybe it's embarrassing to you that you still like Pokemon, but just because you're embarrassed by it doesn't mean you should be ashamed.
Think of it another way: if you had a two year old kid who started throwing a tantrum in public, you'd be embarrassed. But would you be ashamed of your child or even yourself? A healthy person wouldn't be, and shouldn't be.
Unless of course the kid in question did this all the time and you just ignored the little shit. God I hate people who just let their children scream.
