Arcanine, Moltres and Ninetales fills Charizard's tiny role since Fire is rarely needed in Kanto.
Only Exeggutor replaces Venusaur but it comes halfway through the game when grass is less needed, and it's dogshit in FRLG.
Are Charizard and Blastoise good? Yes, but they aren't better than Venusaur in anyway if you actually know how to read stats
