>>23055307It might be cool to have scenes with pokemon bred for specific tasks (like rat terriers versus retrievers versus shepherd) which would be visually interesting in a comic, but it feels hard to weave into a text story without either being too bogged down in details or special snowflakey for the protagonist. I have seen some really terrible art on the subject of contest vs combat pokemon, so we're already not alone in thinking about it.
If you want to think about it in game terms, its manifests through IVs, Natures, and Egg Moves which I guess could work within the confines of any story because it's not too big of a world change for anyone to easily grok.
