Paras is a little cicada kinda pokemon, with a parasitic fungus on his back. when he evolves, the fungus takes over completely, thus the hollow gaze.
like i said, this isnt that secretive since its more or less spelled out in the dex entry, but i could barely read when i played G1. sue me for skimming the pokedex entries
