Everyone outside of the /padt/ knows its good, but it does suffer from a major flaw. Ash isn't that likeable in SM series, he is fun and has a lot of energy, but you need to acknowledge the 20 years of failure to get invested in his success.
If SM is your starter anime this shit isn't any different than most of One Piece where the main characters never lose.
