the blinking idea is cool and you can go with sporadic, uncoordinated movement so it looks like the spider is just a marionette to the fungus guy
as for colouring, i'd do it something like this, but i'm no artist or anything.
give it some bunny coloured tendrils out of the joints from the spiders legs
meme colouration would be araquanid
