5 > 1 >= 2 > 3 = 4 > 7 > 8 > 6
5 is goat story (by Pokemon standards, but that ain't much of an accomplishment. Which only makes everything below it even worse honestly).
1 is great because barely any story! 2 is a fine sequel to a story-less 1. This entire thread devolved into arguing over 3 and 4, but they are both pretty basic and set the foundation for the rest of the games' story formula. 7 holds your hand on your vacation to Hawaii. 8 is a trainwreck, but at least it ain't a disaster like 6. Yikes.
