Okay so with Simon&Sofia and Ricardo.
There has been lots of talk and I think people sort of formed their own ideas of what it would be like.
There was lots of talk long ago, nothing was ever surveyed but of how Ricardo steals the starter from the opposite gender protagonist(Say you are Sofia, Ricardo would steal Simon's starter). And Ricardo would end up having the starter Pokemon that is stronger typing against yours, and your friendly rival would end up with the weaker typing against yours. And you would occasionally see them and battle them throughout the game, but most rival battles being against Ricardo. Because well, he hates you and wants to beat you and cause problems.
How Ricardo steals the first Pokemon has been talked about different ways, even from him stealing a Somberado that your father was going to give you for your first Pokemon or something. Also that you don't actually see Ricardo until you meet him at the Salon in Crossroads town. Which would be pretty easy, just have this big thing about Friendly Rival getting said starter and some mean traveler came by and stole it a little after you get yours.
I might run a survey on your Rival/Friendly Rival in a few days if needed. Or make a deadline for suggestions.
