Pic related is something I got from a wonderful person in my tabletop group where they envisioned a bit of how Murdoch's Homeland looked, both naturally and after human intervention. M.A.S.S. doesn't actually have any buildings with smokestacks like ones seen here, though. Here's hoping I don't regret posting this one...
First, onto the Pokémon you see surrounding him. Now I know what you may be thinking, considering some of the... unfortunate situations Murdoch's been depicted in as of late, but NONE of the monsters here belong to him. In fact, they're all considered to be major enemies of his. Only five of them existed in his original story, though a sixth one came to be in his tabletop iteration. I'm sure you can figure out which one it is, though...
Each one of them is responsible for a major event occurring in Murdoch's childhood that had a very strong negative impact on him in some way or other. When Orzabal and Curtonix initially kidnapped him, they weren't able to pierce his mental defenses despite how strong their capabilities were. The only way they were able to do this was by re-mapping some of his memories to make him more compliant with their influence. Curtonix was the Beheeyem responsible for doing this, and he found the six memories for Pokémon you see in the picture. However... somehow even Curtonix wasn't able to see the identities of each Pokémon, nor was he able to fully erase the memories associated with them due to the impact they had on Murdoch's psyche. The best the Beheeyem could do was suppress the memories to where Murdoch wouldn't be able to recall the events in question...
... But those memories aren't completely gone. Whenever Murdoch sees one of those six mons, the memory starts to unravel itself and causes his mind to relive various parts of its respective encounter. This effectively cripples his cognitive ability to perceive anything around him other than the resurfacing memory.
