Catch all the Pokemon available in your region first to get them out of the way.
Open notepad and make a list of all the Pokemon you don't have yet. Work on getting 5-10 new Pokemon a day at least. When you get a Pokemon, remove it from the list. This will help you keep track of what you need to get and gives you an idea of what to ask for in the GTS.
Use tumblr to find Pokemon giveaways. A lot of blogs are devoted to handing out legendaries, shinies, later-stage evolutions, and dex-fillers. They usually ask for male shitmons from early routes (as female pokemon sometimes don't show up in the GTS).
Finally, Wonder Trade. People complain about endless shitmons but if you're lucky and/or persistent it will help you with your dex. Catch or breed a ton of something okay that you'd be cool with getting yourself and hammer those fuckers into the WT.
