You know, from a mechanics perspective, I do get that the Pokegear wasnt the best rematch system, as setting up matches or waiting on calls was a bit tedious.
But from an immersion standpoint, it was fucking fantastic. Every single trainer had a distinct personality and a different way of talking to you or subject to talk about.
many of the gym leaders just called to talk to you so you could learn more about them.
It took one of the biggest Literally Who Gym Leaders in the franchise for me and made him a lot more interesting.
I can actually remember several trainers in Johto based on the Pokegear calls alone. Like the one that always talks about his son and tells you to call your mom too.
