>>38339492I think Serena, May, and Dawn are the best written PokeGirls. Misty is okay but that’s really it. She’s okay. She doesn’t have character motivation for anything and her goal isn’t well established. She’s already a Gym Leader, a strong trainer, and she has a team of strong Pokémon, which she all had from her first appearance. Nothing about her changes or develops from her debut to her most recent appearance in SM.
As for Iris, she’s the worst. She was made to be a Misty clone, with the same “goal” but having Dragons replace Water types, and she came debuted with a semi strong team. But the problems are already apparent from the moment she appears. Iris wants to be a Dragon Master, whatever that is, but never does anything to further that goal. Things just sort of happen for her that is supposed to be seen as her developing when really it just makes her seem like a Mary Sue. Iris has an Excadrill that doesn’t listen to her for the first 1/3 of the series, she does nothing to restore their relationship, and suddenly it starts listening to her again and becomes a powerhouse. Iris’ Axew is repeatedly stated to want to evolve but instead it gets random power ups and moves it never uses again just so Iris looks like she’s developing. Iris is given a Dragonite for seemingly no reason, it’s extremely overpowered, and again, it starts listening to her after she does nothing with it. Let’s not even talk about that fucking Gible. Crazy thing is Iris met other Dragon trainers like Drayden and Clair and learned absolutely nothing.
Lillie, Mallow, and Lana don’t count. They are all terribly written and that’s just because of the kind of show SM is
