>>56934314I don't understand why Game Freak is still so bad at this. 3d is hard, as someone who's worked on games before I'll fully admit to being completely filtered by Direct3d and multiple attempts to learn blender have gone nowhere past a few low poly meshes with basic textures. But I'm one person trying to find my path to making something I love as BOTH a front and back end dev, they're spearheading a billion dollar franchise and can afford to hire anyone they want or get training on anything they'd like to use as well as the equipment and software for all their devs to use it. There's no way they can't see that

All they need is like 3 optimization specialists to comb through the engine so it doesn't slow to a crawl the moment something interesting is on screen, an environment texture artist who's portfolio consists of more than flat colors with some noise generation, and an art director with standards. We know they can make a game look nice in 3d because xy looks pretty good and lgpe is graphically polished, but somehow you remove the grid and it all falls apart for them.
