Episode 190 of the DP series which also happened to be its penultimate episode aired on the 2nd of September ten years ago; after spending yet another series doing mundane stuff like giving advice, cooking for the team, taking care of the Pokemon in the party and caring for their basic needs and whatnot, Brock finally decided to call time on his travelling days with Ash (and Pokemon Breeding career) in order to take on a new course in life as a Pokemon Doctor.
Which was definitely a plan he had in mind all along and absolutely did not just get pulled out of thin air by the writers who wanted an excuse just to pull him off the party on a permanent basis, unless one calls to mind that singular episode in AG (the Sharpedo one) where some old geezer tells Brock that he'd make for a great Pokemon doctor, in an amazing case of foreshadowing some 7-8 years in the making.
