Heaven was left without most of its heat and hell without most of its water, considering there's still wildlife I assume it's most and not all.
Angels have a affinity for water magic and demons have a affinity for fire. There are also nephilim which are half angel half demon. Demons, atleast in the part of hell where the demo takes place, are P̶r̶e̶t̶t̶y̶ extremely fucking racist against angels and nephilim and heaven is implied to have the same problems just with the roles swapped.
I assume it's been several generations of "emmortals" since the big incident of God leaving because 1) Star didn't seem to realise she was making a deal with the devil/Satan/Big L and 2) Star seems like the type to join his rebellion.
A lot of problems could probably be solved by angels and demons switching realms but meh why do that when you can just enslave demons to get fire in heaven and enslave angels to get water in hell.
Also Star nearly kills herself after the tutorial and does it again at the end.
I don't know if the Divide is a area in hell or the area between heaven and hell, I asked one guy and he said some nonsense about bears, bulls, a mailman and a nearby highway.
