The internet culture made it so it wasn't "I hate it because it's objectively poorly designed!", but rather it was a common encounter in a weak regional dex that was annoying but catching one was common due to its amazing HM usage. Just a fun thing to relate to each other with just like Zubat and the Tentacool line.
