Sounds solid.

My main concern is that Blastoise takes a slow 19 turns to charge up Ice Beam, so you're not really prepared for altaria or tropius. Maybe something like Dusclops w/ice punch in the third slot could work?

As for the actual arguments against it, even the classic 8 year old's argument of "unless you've farmed for levels, it's terrible against almost all of the gyms" is sufficient, although I will concede that it's incredibly easy to overlevel a Charmander once you're past Brock (Charmander demolishes the hoards of Zubats in Mt. Moon).

Anyway, here's how I see it:
Bulbasaur's pros:
>it's typing lets you ignore almost every part or fully Poison type Pokemon, which is a fucktonne of Pokemon
>it's (very late game) access to Sleep Powder makes it great for catching Pokemon. Leach Seed, which comes extremely early, is also good for this job
>can humiliate the Pewter Gym
>will humiliate the Cerulean and Viridian gyms
>not bothered by the Vermilion, Celadon, or Fuchsia gyms
>Razor Leaf is great, but comes late
>difficult to replace

Bulbasaur's cons:
>Leach Seed is offensively shit, and Vine Whip often comes a level too late for you to use it to humiliate the first gym
>even when you have Vine Whip, it's only got 10 PP, making it a pretty bad candidate for the job of powering through caves like Mt. Moon
>speaking of caves, it's got a 4x weakness to bug, meaning that Zubat's Leach Life can seriously damage it
>will have trouble with most of the E4
>humiliated by Saffron and Cinnabar gyms
>HMs/TMs can't do much for it, even Mega Drain has worryingly low PP

I'll admit it was wrong of to say that Ash's DP didn't have much personality, but I stand by my point that OS team was still more likeable. And I was referring to the whole Chimchar line when I said Infernape.

I might be forgetting something here, if I am, please feel free correct me, but most Ash's team had no more than a couple of episodes dedicated to them. Torterra was an exception to this, but I don't remember Buizel or Gliscor getting any big character arc. Again, I don't remember this very well. I haven't watched DP since it was airing.

One last thing, I started watching anime with DP, and watched OS after I saw Ash use his older Pokemon in the League battles. Just throwing it out there, not expecting anyone to believe.
