Feathers and shit and years of questionable sediment, anon. And lakes are full of mud and leeches. The only lake I fuck with is one that's artificially treated with salt and is clear and sandy.
Oceans and seas are great because the waves are constantly recycling the water and rinsing the bottom, and they're cold instead of warm and stagnant and all the goopy grossness that comes with warm and stagnant. But even then you have to be mindful because tides and proximity to harbors can bring pollution, or maybe it's a bay full of sea lice or whatever
I'd swim with some well trained ducks in a clean pool. I like duckies. But living things that congregate in still places turn them into waste havens
