Sakurai has announced that for Smash 6 he would consider including a Pokémon for every generation missed (and Gen 2 since it only has a clone joke fighter in Pichu) and he is asking (you) to choose the representative for these missed generations. The only criteria is that you must justify that the Pokémon has a unique enough playstyle to be included into Smash, the popularity of the Pokémon does not need to be a factor here.
