Its entirely possible to get nearly a whole set from a single booster box. Assemble set, put set on Ebay, acquire shekels. A complete set will sell for around $250-300 while the entire booster box will run about $95-100 on Amazon. Any extras can be kept, traded, or sold individually. Some very rare or desirable cards like the upcoming M-Charizard EX will be best sold individually due to their high value.
This will be my first time actually doing this but my brother has been doing it for years. He often pre-orders the retail pack 6 booster box cases. 216 packs total cost about $580 which works out to about $2.70 a pack. He will make about two grand off the endeavor and will often throw in the worthless extras as bonuses to make the buyers happy.
