On the plus side, I would not have been satisfied with a Goldenrod-only game (Ecruteak-only is hard to imagine) or any remakes. It doesn't seem that Game Freak have enough resources for a proper Legends game right now. Fair enough, but the baiting is inexcusable and it started in PLA (which gave special attention to both Johto and Unova Pokemon, as did SV). What was up with the GS music added in Teal Mask? Perrin's random Super Ball? Those are not typical references. In contrast, Blueberry Academy felt like a consolation prize. At least it wasn't random and some effort was put into it to somewhat appease Unova fans. Kitakami could have been an extension of Johto, but it wasn't.
I still think that a Legends Johto game is a very reasonable guess for Switch 2, if only because that'd be the least intrusive way to revisit Kanto while also continuing what PLA started. But that might not happen until 2029, which is ways off.
