I still don't think they're that bad, even in Sinnoh, since my team's have always naturally gravitated to accommodating every HM. I don't think it's bad to be forced to carry a Water- and Flying-type for Surf and Fly respectively since those are always good mons and those HMs are really good. But HM hate seems to be the majority and they're definitely not without flaw so I'll respect your opinions.
