>>57766473Whenever I have a draft that's suddenly going in an unintended direction (like your example you wanted to write a simple story, but it's turning complicated, a situation I've been in plenty of times), I take it as a sign to split the complicated current draft into two separate documents. One copy is saved and dumped into storage to be ignored forever, or maybe unearthed later if needed. The other draft copy is where I'd go ham and start deleting every single instance of the story trying to complicate itself until it becomes simple again. If I suddenly miss an aspect from the old complicated draft, I just go to the old archived draft to copy and paste the small element into the newer draft. This way I always keep writing momentum without actually losing any old ideas.
I also agree that collaborative writing sucks ass.
