>>34347666off the cuff, my immediate idea was that Scrooge used to be a Pokemon champion of legend, seeking the rarest pokemon in the name of adventure, fortune, and family honor until, like in Dona Rosa/Carl Barks' stuff, he fucked it up and his pokemon abandoned him in disgust (given he caught legendaries, he couldn't really argue with them) including his alienation of his family.
from there it's pretty much duck-verse stuff as usual. Donald and the nephews ending up getting Scrooge back into things, complete with Scrooge grabbing a starter. (oh, hey, maybe the passing of his original starting pokemon was part of the catalyst of his fall?)
Maybe the Beagle Boys have different members part of different villain teams?
Pokemon is like Hellboy in terms of crossover stuff. It goes pretty well with everything.
