I'm not sure its the absolute best but I think a Nidorino wouldn't be a bad choice.
Assuming the pokedex entries are accurate:

Pros:
* about the size of a dog
* great senses
* very very unlikely to evolve into something you can't care for on accident
* some pokedex entries mention specifically "foes" and "hostile presence".
Cons:
* venomous
* some pokedex entries mention it is HIGHLY aggressive or that it will attack "anything"
* not many natural ranged attacks compared to anything elemental.
Neutral:
* only the males are naturally inclined to defense until final evolution+nesting instincts.
