Both pics put the spy theme overly exaggerated to the point of taking over the pokémon's identity entirely.
The key is indeed making it subtle but noticeable, as in the whole Gen 4 trio: they are all animals at their base constitution, with added thematic details to their designs and battle usage. I think those are the most technically flawless final stages, and not even my favorites.
