Even after training with Opal he'd still have rather retired and gets mad every time he loses to you ("Why'd I have to be born in the same time as you", etc).
Yet Bede still gets along extremely well with his Hatterene because the guy put in the work to properly build up a bond with her and tries his best to help her out with his issues. Even though he's a raging torrent of emotions, his Hatterene is still good to him, because it's gotten to know and get attached to him. It's honestly not a bad example to pull out for how Hatterene's behavior in the wild vs with a trainer who actively tries to build a bond with it varies quite differently.
