You would have one thing on your side- the game would be intentionally poor in the same way as R/B/Y, with some moves not doing what the descriptions say, stats being messed up, and such (pic related). However, enemies would choose their moves based on the game's descriptions say, so by looking for and exploiting discrepancies and (manufactured) glitches, you'd be able to cheat your way through opponents much more effectively than by grinding.
