What a nice thread here, lots of great discussion. You know, Pokemon fans are like babies, they don't have object permanence. Should nothing happen unless we get to see it? It's funny, I heard a lot of whining about Iris becoming champion "too quickly" when many clamored for Ash to become the champion during XY. Even stranger, this harsh criticism goes the opposite way for Dawn, who apparently SHOULD have done more things off-screen.
There's a general outcry whenever a character like Iris, Sawyer, or Goh makes quicker progress as a trainer than Ash did starting in OS, as if Ash's rate of improvement is meant to be the blueprint for all trainers.
To that end, why don't we hate OS Gary? He achieved everything a lot faster than Ash, and caught TONS of Pokemon. Aren't we supposed to hate that? After all, it goes against the way Ash supposedly bonds with Pokemon before catching them. You know, other than the dozens of times he chucked a Pokeball at something he thought looked cool. You fucking idiots.
You all have an over attachment to a cartoon that's purpose is to provide weekly entertainment and levity. It's not meant to be anyone's primary fictional narrative that they follow. Its your fear to interact with new things that lead you to develop these unrealistic expectations for the Pokemon anime. If you read a good book, or watched a more compelling series, not an animated one, you would give Pokemon some fucking slack and stop wanting it to reward you for your longtime viewership. You're all an embarrassment and you should feel bad. Genuinely. Just admit it to yourself. You wish you were different, deep down. For fuck's sake, own up to it once in a while.
