As a black girl, it makes me so sad that every time this topic is brought up, and someone makes the claim that Nessa is black, they get a bunch of anons whitesplaining to them how she's *ackshually* Indian or Latino or something else.
Like, come on guys, she's an anime character. She doesn't actually have a race. So what's the harm in letting black people have a character, just this once? So many black girls identify with Nessa. We finally have a character we can cosplay without white nerds complaining in our mentions. We don't have much representation in Japanese media. 99% of Pokemon characters are white, asian, or white coded.
Even if you're technically right and she isn't black (which is doubtful unless her character designer goes on record to say she's not black) the fact that you go out of your way to deprive black folk of the ability to identify with this character says a lot about you as a person.
