I feel like the fact that this board gives Blaziken a pass (because there aren't a lot of vocal birdfuckers here) is proof enough of that.
That said, earlier gen humanoids are generally silly looking, simplistic and tend to have themes that aren't too blatant, while there's a lot more in-your-face anthropomorphization that can be off-putting in some newer designs.
