It's really all depending on the theme of a particular franchise. Pokemon are meant to be like the world's wildlife, meanwhile Yokai Watch and SMT they're meant to be all sorts of folklore and myths and spirits which includes humans, and Digimon is pretty much anything humans have put info into digital spaces.
