So /vp/ how do you build your teams? Based around balance, power, or what kind of strategies? I'd like to know because I'm trying to make a team myself and all I have so far is Eelektross. Also some advice for building a team would be great.

I usually build my team based on type, and based on pokemon I like.

I try to avoid having more than two of the same type if possible. Also, I tend to end up with 10-15ish pokemon just so that I can cover a number of situations.

Also different team for each version. One thing I kinda go for is:

Starter
Fossil
Branch Evolution (if applicable)
Different form (if applicable)
Legendary Trio
Mythical Pokrmon (usually the cute one(s))

You can literally go from version to version and swap out pokemon and build your team around this if you wanted to. It's quite fun. Play around with it a bit.

I usually do it around a combination of typing and stats+starter. So I'll use trios of sorts, like fire/water/grass, electric/ground/flying, fighting/psychic/dark, ice/dragon/ghost [spolier]I know this isn't a trio fight me[/spoiler]. I then make a team around these trios based on what their highest stat is. I usually have one pokemon that has one great stat, to fill my six party slots
