>>12922020I've battled competitively since Gen 2, so I'd have no problem if competitive battling receded to simulators again. However, as long as Nintendo keeps hosting the VGC, there will be some interest in actual DS battling. That said, it's in their best interest to think of something here, or otherwise the VGCs would become even more ridiculous than they already are. Remember Hyper Beam Rayquaza? That kind of ridiculous.
Obviously, if they really make breeding and EVing easier in-game, a lot of people would sacrifice the time to participate in the VGC, and some kind of metagame could still exist. It'd be more boring for sure, but VGC is a realy slow meta anyway.
So, competitive battling as a whole is not gonna die. The 3DS being "not hacked" could make it a bit more difficult, but even that's not probable. Let me explain why.
First of all, GameFreak doesn't really care. If wanted to prevent hacking, they wouldn't have programmed the whole fucking game in a way to faciliate it. In one afternoon of work, you can disable RNG abuse completely (or at least make it so difficult it becomes impractical for 99% of the people who use it atm). And that's just a small example. I'd even suspect they know that there's a good fanbase that stays for competitive battling and that they don't want to anger. (At least that's how they've acted the last 8 years.)
And then, there's "hacks", that aren't really invasive on the 3DS system and that cannot be prevented in the long run. Namely, that's Pokegts and pals. As long as XY support online trading, methods similar to Pokegts will always work (because I strongly suspect Nintendo is not gonna spend the money to actually implement working security systems here). So yeah, we will get our designed sets on XY.
