You don't need to take a second egg. You save, generate an egg, hatch it and check it. I fit's what you want you reset and swap the parents and generate and hatch it again, if it's not what you want you reset, generate and reject it, save and you're back at the start.

The problem is while I'm hatching the egg, another egg is generated, right? Doesn't that egg hold new IVs? Because that's what happened when I tried this method.

While you're hatching the egg another egg is generated, yes, but you don't need to take or care about that egg. Because you're going to be resetting your game in either situation (the egg you're hatching is what you want and you need to swap the parents, or the egg you're hatching is not what you want and you reset to reject it). The fact that a new egg is generated doesn't matter due to you resetting to a point before that anyway.

Oh probably. Are you treating the ditto as the father? Dittos are always considered the mother no matter what gender you paired them with. I think that's a problem a lot of people seem to be having when they try this.

Shouldn't be, I haven't been caring about the order I've been putting things in and I've been using this for 6IV pokes without any problems. Are you making sure not to forget the hold items when you swap parents? Could you go over a scenario where it's not working for you?
