Dunno where you're getting that from. Both Froakie and Dedenne seemed pretty fucked up after being hit by Pikachu's reflected attacks.

If anything I don't think we will ever get another gym leader as brutal as Surge. That guy went overboard with beating Pikachu in their first battle.

Don't get me wrong, I liked Beetleborgs.

But the show they're based off of is part of the Metal Hero franchise, which has been dead for like ten years. The pic that started this conversation was of a Kamen Rider - ironically what replaced Metal Hero when it died.

No, Beetleborgs (B-Fighter Kabuto, technically) "ripped off" Kamen Rider - if there was any ripping off even going on. It's all the same company, so they can do what they want.

But Kamen Rider did bugs first back in the 70s, but it went off the air during the 90s, which is when Metal Hero had their two shows that got turned into the two seasons of Beetleborgs.

After that, Metal Hero kinda died after some really crappy shows and Kamen Rider came back to a glorious return to form with Kuuga. In the planning stages, Ryuki was actually going to be a Metal Hero show, but they completely scrapped whatever the original idea they had for that was and kept going on Rider - but the weird bikes in Ryuki were originally going to be used in that Metal Hero show, so there's that.

The more you know! If you like Beetleborgs, I highly suggest either checking out the original show (sadly only about five episodes are subbed) or some Kamen Rider sometime. You won't regret it.
