Are holofoil cards just way more common now? Because I bought 2 packs today for the first time in years and I have like 5 holofoils.

From what I remember, each card pack now comes with one standard rare card, one rare holo and one reverse holo.

Back in the day, it came with either a standard rare OR a rare holo, and reverse holos didn't exist.

So yeah, way more common.

new cards are much stronger and are very hard to work around, besides the competitive pokemon scene is filled with young kids, I didn't really want to try and jump into, I like magic as a game much more.

There are no broken cards, just broken combos. When you allow everything that was ever made, some unplanned combos, loops, etc are bound to appear. See YGO, they're forced to ban and limit cards every few months because they create broken combos with cards printed ages ago.

The general rule for the PTCG's competitive scene is that if the tournament isn't in Modified format, then it's absolute shit. The good news is that TPCi is introducing a new format in the 2014-2015 season.

You're confusing strength with resale value, a 1st Edition Base Set Charizard can sell for thousands of dollars if it's in the right condition.

And if you think Base Set Charizard was good back in the old days, then you're wrong. Haymaker decks were king back then.

That was about it though.
Old Trainers were top (especially as Supporters weren't one per turn as they weren't even "Supporters" then), but newer Pokémon cards are more powerful.
