Anyway the BF was pretty tedious especially the Pyramid and Pike but the gimmicks covered up that fact and made it appear fun.

The resort is amazing.

Battle frontier was like a carnival, it was nice in that aspect, but there are a lot of things that just got kind of dropped in favor of "stuff all the legendaries into the game" which is kind of distasteful, and that's where all the complaining about 0battle frontier is.

To be honest, the only places I liked at BF was the Battle Factory (since it was an official version of Showdown in a way), and the one where you pick 3 mons and based on seeing two of your opponent's sending out your pokemon.

Also I liked the music from the luck building but the game itself was tough. Everything else I could do without.

Because between RS and E, it's obvious Emerald is the most well developed version. Pretty much like DP vs Pt. Emerald features made really good contributions to the franchise. If you take those out you get a mediocre game.

Emerald was more or less an upgrade from R/S
Gym leaders? They got more pokemon and had a few extra levels under their belt and you had Juan
Pokemon? Arguable since there still some exclusives but you had a good selection and some newer ones
Trainers along the way? Buffed a bit so you didn't go against a gym leader who was level 28 and the trainers highest is 22
Antagonists? You battled both and it was more fitting plan and base-wise, a.k.a magma by the volcano and aqua out by the sea, rather than one takes on both and the others seen as the 'good' side
Elite Four had some extra levels on them too
And of course the post game content, frontier being the main thing, you also had Steven at Meteor Falls in the back who was really high levelled

Popularity has fuck all to do with quality. You might have forgotten, but the jump in features/quality compared to Gen 2 was MIND BLOWING back in the day. Gen 5 -> Gen 6 is the only other comparable transition, and that's purely because of the shift from 2D to 3D.

Just for reference, R/S dropped:

-visible day/night cycle
-days of the week
-animated sprites
-transfer of older pokémon
-internet connectivity
-Half of the fanbase

The only "good" things it did was add abilities, revamp the IVs system and that's it. Both are things the common consumer don't give a shit about.

The special split in gen II and the physical /special split in gen IV were both way bigger leaps in quality

Well we do have all the battle modes. Which really interest me a lot more, and I don't really see a point to rental pokemon anymore when it's so easy to get ones with egg moves. Natures. Anything really.

I'd honestly rather they have a regular and inverse battle maison. Also add a horde battle mode to it because why not. Inverse battles are great for dat grass.
