Also Magma is a Ground type team, Houndoom would be too random and samey since Flare and Galactic (and maybe Rocket? I don't remember) already use it.
The addition of the Koffing and Grimer lines was bizarre. Out of the many many Pokemon they could have had that would actually be thematically appropriate, they give them two completely random Kanto Poison mons.
