Yes, it was 100% legit. I used the pomeg/glitzer popping glitch to get the third Kanto starter though.
I played through Emerald twice, making sure to get the Deep Sea Tooth and Scale, as well as picking the correct lati@s at the end.
I played through Leafgreen twice, making sure to pick both the dome and helix fossil.
You can complete the national dex via Emerald, Leafgreen, Colosseum, and xd, which is what I did.

Gen 3 always stuck out as the hardest to complete the Dex in to me, what with all pokemon being spread between many games. What are those glitches, what did you do about the version exclusive mons, and did you run into a shiny during your quest?

Between Emerald, Leafgreen, Colosseum, and xd, I got all the version exclusive pokemon. It just kind of worked out that way.

I'd tend to agree about gen 3 being the hardest, although gen 4 isn't much better

Despite doing all of this, the regis (excluding regigigas) are still unobtainable legitly without a gen 3 game.

As I did not use cheats, I did not get those. I also didn't get Celebi either, despite it technically being obtainable.

Why'd it take you so long? Mine took a few years to be fair but that was entirely from the slowpoke family since I couldn't find anyone with a copy of LG until 2010.

It didn't take very long at all. I picked up my copy of Emerald used back in august 2014.
I played it off and on since then, beating the four gen 3 pokemon games.
