Nothing is wrong with this. It gives reason to bother playing after the Elite 4, which so far there's literally nothing good in any games except for G/S/C/HG/SS where you get an entire other region to play in.

Catch a shit ton of pokemon with 3 stars of the desired species.
Grab a pair that has the right nature/HA.
Breed away a couple of times to pass the shit that is important while shuffling EVs around.

There you have it, a perfect EV pokemon that will be your bud forever.

Or you coudl just inject it and use competitively.

At first I loved the idea of varying natures, abilities, IVs, and EVs, as it really did make every Pokemon fairly unique.

But nowadays it's too easy (relatively) to have a perfect whatever, so why put a barrier up at all? Also, since each Pokemon has only a few optimal set ups, it has really shifted the balance from catching Pokemon to breeding them. You wouldn't ever go out and use the first Pokemon you caught, you'd catch a number of them then chain breed them for a day until you had a good one. Now nothing feels unique (despite the intentions).

Every 'mon is "hatched from egg from Day Care Couple on Route XXX"

What if EVs became Skill Points and you could choose to allocate what Skill Points you collected? So you can never get the wrong EVs that fuck up your build unless you allocate a bunch of random Skills Points like a retard. You could also keep them as EVs but with the allocation thing. So you can ignore the Attack or Defense EVs and only put in the Speed and Sp. Attack EVs you've collected.

Maybe it can be part of the core gameplay. So you're prompted to allocate points after a level up and (maybe you can only do it after a level up or a reset baglike item but you can choose to skip and do it later). They could add caps on EVs, perhaps because trainers would be using good EV spreads too, going up to lvl 50.

Also two versions of a reset bag item would be nice. One where you reset and lose all the points you collected and one that is harder to get but lets you keep your points.

You can use a "lab" to build pokemon that are only usable in this Showdown-esque venue. You can do pretty much anything PKHeX allows you to do within the bounds of legality.

This would essentially bring Smogonfags back to the games from Showdown and separate the pool of Smogonfag players and "muh fun/muh favorite pokemon" players into 2 camps.
