Characters have their shortcomings and they always work towards overcoming them.
For example, the girl in OP's pic has ornithophobia.
Characters and worldbuilding are some of Special's strongest points.

I mean it's still a kids manga at heart, but it's league better than the anime i think. Little "darker" but not like edgy grim-dark. It's also nice to switch around the cast every once and a while- oh also the best thing? They age.
