Why does Nintendo refuse to put out any other other main games on the eshop? It would make them a shit ton of money, so why the fuck won't they do it? Is there any reason not to do it? Can the 3DS really not even handle a GBA emulator?

The bigger question is will they ever release the gen2 games on VC.

I want that GBC meta back, where you can make new movesets by breeding in GSC or using a new TM of a move that exists in RBY, and trading the Pokemon back to RBY.

But that was only fun for Pokemon Stadium 1.

Nintendo did try GBA with the 3DS once and then they shat the bed with it. A select few games were available to some "ambassador" units a while back and then the games themselves had this stupid dark filter and ghosting effect as if the SP didn't exist. You can inject other games without the awful screen emulation and it suddenly becomes the best way to play GBA games next to gameboy player. We're talking about full hardware compatibility here and the reason why Nintendo doesn't bother using it is because no savestates apparently isn't good enough for them.

Thank you for reminding me of the most fun my brother and I ever had.
To this day I'm still convinced he and I bought more copies of the Fire, Ice and Thunder punch TMs than 90% of the G&S playerbase

3DS runs GBA games perfectly. It struggles with SNES games, but N3DS runs those perfectly as well.

Early adopters of the 3DS (before an early price drop) were given a bunch of downloadable GBA games that were never made available on the standard eShop.
The emulator was incredibly rushed, but it obviously can be done. I assume Homebrew has had it working for years too.

It uses a very roundabout method of backwards compatibility to play GBA games. It basically boots into DS mode, then boots into GBA mode from there.
