What other popular/marketable ARORA Pokemon are even left for him? Legendaries/UBs are obviously off-limits.

Why won't Rockruff evolve?
We already know that there is a third Lycanroc form thanks to Global Link so it's all but confirmed that Ash will get that.

I don't think they would put the limit this time, considering the nature of the story.
But who knows, they might make a mood whiplash at the climax.

Or they could just not bring up the UBs. That works too.

You do know that if a pokemon evolves, It's not considered a comedy relief pokemon, right. And at that point they have to evolve Dartrix, because marketing reasons. And when rowlet evolves, witch will take a little while since they want to sqeez as much cute and memorable moments out of rowlet before they let him evolve into the mess that is Dartrix. But dartrix does got something to offer to the anime, he's a interesting pokemon. Dartrix can offer a good story on his own. And could be both ash's and Rowlet trial. Just read his official dex entire.

Sounds like a good way to incorporate Rowlet's evolution. Dartrix may not be as popular but it can hold a lot of comedic moments on its own.

But quick daily reminder tho. S/M anime is still a comedy relief anime, So you got to put it on every one of his pokemons. Not just decidueye.
