to be fair, Ninetails-alola is a pretty darn cool ice-type with nice speed, decent offensive capabilities (you can't realistically give 100/100 offensive stats for something that can run perfect Blizzard) and some useful supporting moves.

Seriously, I can't think of any reason as to why they keep doing, there are very little good offensive Ice types.

Weavile, and umm...Mamoswine I guess.

Really though, it's sad.

Worst part is that even if they made a fast offensive Ice type, odds are a fucking bulky as shit Water will just do it's job better anyway since every Water type can learn Ice Beam.

Everything about Ice's strengths and weaknesses are appropriate. These would effectively lend themselves better to faster, stronger Pokemon. However, when you look at the actual qualities of ice, you think of the lumbering cold and toughened icebergs. This is why Ice Pokemon tend to be slow and defensive.

Ninetales had a super good showing at worlds this year is doing pretty well in the OU meta as well but they literally had to give it Reflect+Light Screen in one move to put it there which is kinda telling about how bad Hail is.

Fairy is the exception to this, Fairy was entirely designed with competitive balance in mind, which is why it beats the most prominent gen 5 types, and is weak to the worst offensive types.
Water is imbalanced because the OG creator had a water boner.
Steel is only busted because of what is dominant. It is a coincidence that Steel was both the answer to dragonspam, but also to fairyspam.

It doesn't help the vast majority of games Ice is a type you can't catch till later in the games.

I had an Alolan Vulpix earlyish in SM but I can't recall if that was ingame or trade. Thats the only exception.

Yeah, what a coincidence. They even gave it a fucking Fairy resist as if the only way to keep Fairy somewhat in check is to buff the other best type in the game.

And fire is held back by a metric ton of weaknesses.
So on a practical level steel in higher tiers is just weak to earthquake.

The only one that has any sort of presence is (Mega) Swampert. Gastrodon and Quagsire are niche picks for specific situations.

There's nothing particularly busted about coverage. I don't see people complaining about Earthquake being handed out everywhere. What you should be complaining about is a lack of coverage, not other things actually having it. That's just being petty.

The mon that uses contrary leaf storm only has leaf storm as their only attacking move. And it have 90% accuracy. Compare that to never miss blizzard that can break through protect AND can freeze you.

flying is among the best, in gen6 birdspam was a fucking legit strat
poison and steel are good because they kill fairies. You said it. Grass is only strong against stuff that's already weak to Water (which is also a better defensive type) and Water itself, which can be covered by the much more useful Electric. The fact that the only relevant offensive Grass-type mons are a fucking 180+ base atk (which is also a Steel type) with moxie and a 130 base atk with a built-in choice band should tell something.
