What’s up with smogons rules. I like some of the stuff but others feel like too much. The sleep clause? Banning mimikyu and dugtrio? I have made so many normal teams just to find my set banned. Even the forum mods are a little banhappy. It’s really driving me away from Pokémon showdown entirely.

Mimikyu isn't banned. Sleep Clause isn't even something Smogon made up - it was Pokemon Stadium, and it's actually a good rule there. The way Smogon implemented it is stupid, though.

Sleep Clause was an official tournament rule up until gen 4 when doubles became the primary tournament format (which happened in the middle of gen 3, but the sleep clause rule was still lingering from the singles era).

Oh really? I didn’t know that about sleep clause but I try to run heal bell on my team and I disagree with the rule itself.I wasn’t allowed to take my mimikyu Set into battle spot singles. I don’t get it man. Plus a lot of moves I don’t know about are banned and when I go to validate it just says BLANK is illegal

I didn’t get into the competitive scene until sun and moon. I just didn’t expect it to be so hmm over regulated. Ya know? I am a new fanatic and I like the rules for the actual game itself I just don’t want to spend a long time testing builds. Like should I run adamant or jolly on some sets etc. etc.

Battle Spot Singles uses the 3DS rules instead of Smogon's rules. My guess is that you were violating item clause.

Without it, sleep can cause uncompetitive problems in metagames. A good example is gengar abusing hex + hypnosis in early sm ubers, which allowed it to single handedly pressure any balance at will.

Mimikyu isn't banned from OU lol. Arena trap has been a problem since ORAS, Dug became more prominent because it got a good buff entering sm
You don't have to play by Smogon's rules, no one is forcing you to. I don't know why autists keep crying "MUH SMOGON RULES" when there are other metagames you can choose to play on showdown ladders. VGC, BSS, random battle, monotype, there is a good variety of metagames you can play on showdown
