you know that you can get a slugma in Violet City right? Also while it's true that the pokemon is bad how bad you'd have to be to constantly make it faint considering most of the trainers in Johto are weak as piss

Did ANYONE use this naturally? No, I don't mean "i went back and specifically chose to use a lumineon in my next playthrough because i get my jollies tricking myself that i'm special for using garbage mons, or i'm a 'good' person because i gave them a chance." It's another pure water type, its stats are trash even for ingame: 69/69/76/69/86/91 (hurr durr 69 lel), and by the time it's available you already can get twenty other water types better than it in every way besides maybe the ability.

Who designed this?

I've used it several times because I do genuinely love it, but only on injected or randomized nuzlocke runs. Also used to be the only Swift Swim defogger before USUM and is still the only one without a SR weakness, so it does have the tiniest bit of niche.

Only pokemon I can remember off the top of my head having to box and replace because they weren't measuring up in game were Beedrill in FireRed and Delcatty the second time I played Emerald. Oddly enough the Skitty in my first playthrough was able to keep up with the rest of my team the whole time.

I tried running a Beedril in X but it was so damn bad. It had nothing for moves which is a recurring trend for Gen I Pokémon.

However, a fast mon with spammable high basepower stab moves, it is not.
Team support helps but some ppl don't enjoy the slower, more team based play, it seems.

Fire types are shit in almost every region. In Hoenn we can only use (starter aside) Slugma, Torkoal or Numel, and the three are garbage. Don't forget the bullshit that's Sinnoh before Platinum expansion.

Torkoal and Camerupt are okay, just keep them away from Water-types. I never really had issues using either of them. Slugma is pretty shit though.

I tried to use a Camerupt in ORAS. Even in-game it sucks a lot.
Besides this, what >>34768853 is trying to say is that Gamefreak hates fire pokémon.

I've only used those mentioned Fire-types in Emerald. In ORAS I think I completely ignored them.

And Magmar is pretty great in Gen 2, easily one of the best types for its game in the series. But I can't really say you're wrong, it feels like Gamefreak can't really make decent Fire-types unless it's a starter.

its the typing not the stats or movepool Magcargo has a nice def of 120 and a nice spatk of 80 it wants to be a slow defensive special attacker and it does have recover for staying power as well as a massive amount of supporting tools both screens, willo wisp, clear smog, sneaky pebbles etc.. and getting that sweet flame body burn feels great, okay ya got me the health is abysmal at 50 but ive seen worse pokemon with no direction stat wise and no moves

I agree. If it's just one player mode and your screwing around for fun what's the harm? I remember back when I was a kid all the games had cheat codes and shit so you could give all the characters big heads or swim in the lava or shit like that. Seems like it's just fun as long as you aren't lording it over another person in Vs. Mode.

Slow bulky pokemon are fine. Slow frail mons are not. Frail mons with middling/average speed are even worse(Trick Room? Too fast! Outside of Trick Room? Not fast enough!)
